The 1st of January has always meant more than just the first day of the new year, and it’s been like that all my life.
Because the 1st of January is also my dad’s birthday, something that’s a lot more important to me than New Year’s Day.
We do have an awkward relationship, where we don’t converse much (he isn’t really a man of many words..) but he’s never raised his voice, never hurt my mother, or anyone else as a matter of fact. At times it feels like he’s the one who needs protecting, so that his gentle heart doesn’t get broken. But I’ve been told time and time again by my mum that he is stronger than he looks.
Thank you God for allowing me to be the daughter of such a wonderful man, a man who prayed day after day in the hope that he could be the father to a baby girl, and the girl, now starting life as a young adult, promises to never disappoint him.. I am so grateful for having a father figure in my life, and especially one so caring and so loving.
So happy birthday Dad 🙂
