This is a very well known fact about student life: if one person falls ill, the whole campus falls ill.
Recently, UK weather has been anything but nice to our immune system. It has been cold, and then it became ridiculously wet as a storm passed over. Soon after, the temperature picked up a bit, before suddenly plummeting to sub zero values.
To make things worse, this is in the middle of exam season, where everyone is cooped up in the library for hours on end – the perfect environment for illnesses to spread.
I woke up this morning feeling like I had a feather up my nose. I couldn’t stop sneezing or blowing my nose, and the pile of tissues inevitably started to resemble Mont Blanc more and more. A nice potato and leek soup, and cup of hot peppermint tea later, I feel a little less beaten up. The same can’t be said for everyone, however. I went to check on a friend a few minutes ago and drop off a souvenir from Zurich, but I found him huddled in his room, gloves and hat on, desperately trying to get through his revision despite his miserable cold.
Stay safe and healthy this winter, and be weary of the weather everyone.
And make sure to get your flu shots!
